Why Orthodontics

What is orthodontics?

Today, orthodontic treatment is simple, convenient and affordable for patients of all ages. And an attractive smile is just one of the benefits. Orthodontic treatment results in correctly aligned teeth that provide ideal jaw function and a great smile! Additionally, your teeth are easier to clean and more resistant to gum disease. Perhaps most importantly, orthodontic treatment almost always provides improved self-confidence.

What kind of training does an orthodontist have?

why-orthodonticsThe dental specialists who are educated and trained to correct misaligned teeth and improper bite patterns are known as orthodontists. Orthodontists like Dr. Wilson, have earned their dentistry degree and completed an advanced post-doctoral course, accredited by the American Dental Association, of at least two academic years in the specialty of orthodontics.

Why should I choose to see an orthodontist?

During orthodontic treatment, teeth, and sometimes entire facial structures, are permanently changed. Therefore it is important to have the treatment appropriately and properly completed by an orthodontist. Orthodontists have extensive and specialized training that enables them to provide their patients with professional, personalized treatments.

When should I have an orthodontic consultation?

Along with the American Association of Orthodontists, we recommend that a child receive their first orthodontic screening by the age 7. By starting treatment early, we are able to recognize potential problems early and correct them before they become more serious. This not only saves you and your child time, but also money.

However, there is no age limit to orthodontics. We treat teenage and adult patients, too!

How do I get started?

Simply call our office to set up your first appointment! During this visit, we will help you get acquainted with our office and learn about your orthodontic treatment. We understand that each patient's orthodontic treatment is different, and we promise to give you the personal attention you deserve. Your first appointment will consist of an examination, necessary x-rays and a discussion of potential treatment options. This important visit will address your orthodontic needs to determine if this is the proper time to begin treatment.

After we have evaluated your records, we conduct a treatment consultation to explain all aspects of your treatment in detail. We will provide a complete clinical diagnosis regarding the nature of the problem, a written summary of the findings and a detailed plan that outlines your treatment, goals and estimated fees. We encourage questions from both the patient and the parent, and as such, we provide ample time to answer your questions.

Dr. Wilson uses state-of-the-art mechanics and materials, which are more efficient and allow for longer intervals of time between appointments, shorter appointments, shorter treatment times and more comfortable and aesthetic treatment.

A Long List of Differences
